Local womenswear designer Christopher Collins will appear on the eighth season of "Project Runway," which returns July 29 on Lifetime.
Collins launched his line of feminine yet practical dresses and separates in fall 2008, having worked for formalwear companies Tadashi and Dina Bar-el after graduating from San Francisco State with a degree in fashion design. He was one of six San Francisco designers featured in that fall's Gen Art show, and opened his boutique on Sutter Street in 2009. Collins' designs were featured on the cover of SFiS last year, and he has been an active participant in local fashion shows including Discarded to Divine and Dress for Succcess San Francisco. He's inspired by Elizabethan details and tailoring, and lists his favorite designers as Dior and Lanvin on the Lifetime website.

The show will be expand to 90 minutes this season and show more of the contestants and judging process. Season 7 featured local contesants Amy Sarabi and Jay Nicolas Sario, who came thisclose to the final three, and even got to make a final collection.
